Representing Numerical Values - Real Numbers

Real numbers are any number in the number system, including fractions of whole numbers. They can either be represented using fractional (fixed point binary) or floating point binary.

Example:

A fixed point binary number

24 23 22 21 20 2-1 2-2 2-3
16 8 4 2 1 1/2 1/4 1/8
0 1 0 0 1 1 0 1

in decimal 8+1+1/2+1/8 = 9+4/8+1/8 = 9+5/8 or 9.625

Note: It is beyond the scope of this course to cover real numbers in more detail.
