Connecting to the Internet (2 of 2)

Home users use telephone lines or cable connections to access the Internet. They connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) who will charge them a flat monthly rate or according to the time they spend on-line. As well as paying the service provider the home user may have to pay the telephone or cable company for the cost of the telephone calls, usually charged as a local call.

Once connected to the Internet it is possible to access a wide range of services from around the world. In the next section we will look at just some of the services available to the user.
