There are many types of functions that accompany spreadsheets. Many of these functions serve as useful tools in performing everyday calculations.

For example the SUM (number1, number2,...) function is a standard function, found in many spreadsheet packages, used for adding numbers together:

As you can see the SUM function has automatically added the values together in the cell C2.
