Personal Computer's (PCs) employ an operating system that performs the tasks of:
  1. Initialising the system

  2. Providing routines for handling input/output requests

  3. Memory allocation

  4. File handling system

Examples of operating systems for PCs are MS-DOS ®, UNIX, Microsoft Windows 95® and Microsoft Windows NT®.
